RESEARCH COORDINATOR
Based at the COSATU Parliamentary Office in Cape Town
Job description:
The Research Co-coordinator will, as part of a team:
- be responsible for analysing policy and legislation in defined portfolios (such as macro-economic, trade and industry, local government, health, and public works);
- develop COSATU responses to proposed policy or legislation falling in these portfolios and formulate alternative proposals;
- keep COSATU leadership and structures briefed on relevant developments;
- prepare and present COSATU submissions, and advocate and/or negotiate positions with Government Departments, in Parliament, in Nedlac and other forums;
- participate in various coalitions and campaigns;
- co-ordinate the research programme of the Parliamentary Office.
Requirements:
- preferably a postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience.
- literacy in economics would be an advantage;
- experience in policy work, and political skills;
- experience in advocacy work would be an advantage;
- good analytical skills and strong writing ability;
- commitment to the values and objectives of the Federation;
- ability to work to tight deadlines
- must be prepared to commence employment by 01 March 2006, at the latest.
